What is a moodboard?

Well according to good old Wikipedia a mood board is: "a type of visual presentation or 'collage' consisting of images, text, and samples of objects in a composition. It can be based on a set topic or can be any material chosen at random. A mood board can be used to convey a general idea or feeling about a particular topic." For me personally a mood board is how I show a client visually what they tell me they are wanting. It tells me what direction my clients are wanting with their photographs to go.

How does it work?

After creating a mood board for one of my clients I send it to them for approval. A client will either tell me then yes this is exactly what I am wanting for my photos or no this isn't exactly what I had in mind. From there I either put it in that clients folder or I scrap it and try again.

Why is it important?

Mood boards are very important. Without them I wouldn't know what my clients are thinking and wanting for their photos. If I don't do a mood board I could totally photograph the person differently than they want making for unhappy clientele. I always want happy and satisfied clients.
