Finding a spot takes time and research

Do your research

Researching different spots is vital for finding unique, not overused, and beautiful photo spots. I can not stress enough to research each spot you will photograph at and check it out in person beforehand. Researching can mean many different things and I will talk about different ways of researching a little farther down. One big thing for me is once you find a spot you love add it to a document that has a list of your special photo spots. Also mark it on your gps I have this one spot that I loved forgot to mark it on my gps and now I can't find it.

google Earth

I know that this sounds weird but some of the spots I find I find on google earth. I will think of an area that I know I have seen or liked and ten I type that area. into google earth and look at what that area looks like. This method helped me find a beautiful Dallas Skyline that was unobstructed by power lines unlike some spots of Trinity park.

Facebook groups

Facebook groups are a photographers friend. They are great spots to bounce ideas off of people and find spots that other photographers use. One thing to keep in mind though is that these spots will most likely have a ton of other photographers there. A side note for this is you're going to have to push your ego and competitiveness aside. I am a highly competitive person to the point where I have this other photographer in my area who I have met in person and wasn't a fan of so now I will check out her social every now and again just to check and see how many followers I have left to gain in order to "beat" her. Don't be like me.

google search is your friend

Google is a great tool to use when searching for a photo spot. It helps with looking for spots in towns you aren't as familiar with like in my case Fort Worth. Dallas is my town Fort Worth is next to it but too far away to explore often therefore if I get a client in the Fort Worth area google searching becomes my friend.

Lastly, go explore

I can not stress this last point enough. I used to do door dash on the side before my business started really taking off and as I would deliver orders I would look around while driving taking note about different spots I saw. Even when you commute and drive places you should always be looking out for different photo spots.
